22nd Annual Black Fly Fling

Once again we are excited to welcome players to beautiful South River, On. This village has a special place in disc golfers hearts. Walking the course, feeling the breeze of the water and staring over the expansive lake your warmed by the thoughts of the memories made over 22 years. Disc golfers excited to see their friends for what was the first event of the year. Camping, laughing, catching up with old friends, silly games by the campfire. Come join the heritage of this event and experience it for yourself! As the times change this event remains the same 2 day, 4 rounds, 20 hole event. The course plays smooth outside of a little backup on round 3 when most divisions play long tees. We have spotters ( Alex ) and have been able expedite any issues. The course is also flat and easy walking. These things help a lot when it comes to playing this much golf. Smooth moving, easy walking. This year we are adding an event midweek “Black Fly Fling Legends” on the Wednesday before the event. As such the course will closed that day for practice or play. We apologize and know we all have different days we needed for practice. The course will be set up in its 20 hole Black Fly Fling layout Monday the 12th. We have some design changes coming we know for sure like Hole 20 :) The others are works in progress with the town in an effort to prioritize public safety and evolve with the sport and its demands. Nothing serious but will update as that develops. Friday Annual Random Doubles Pro/Am Event! Well this got out of hand last year with explosive attendance results! 2023 - 30+ people 2024 - 100+ people Traditionally a laid back event with flip flops and fizzy pops for those who just love to throw, same identity but will do sign up with registration and make an event on Udisc and will do all we can to make the the process smoother at those numbers. As always we will have some prizes for the champs even though this isn’t the focus of this event. As well we may make 2 pools if the field is big enough and get more prizes for more winners. Saturday we will wake up the village with a Dušan “Moment of Loudness.” Wish our friends well and head out to tees. We are vetting food vendor options for lunch. The hopes to have someone on site to cater to your needs. After round 2 usually ending around 2:30pm we will have the Players Party at 4:30ish at the Royal Canadian Legion in town. There we host an annual player banquet dinner, live entertainment, games, raffles, and more. Sunday after the final round we gather again back at the Legion for closing ceremonies! Let’s celebrate the amazing weekend we had together highlighting special moments, praising outstanding volunteers, congratulating our competitors, and reveling in the fact that our niche sport brought a genuine economic stimulus to a small northern village that appreciates what we all do for them. DISCY CHICKS DISC GOLF Whoop whoop! Mindy and Rob Myall are coming back to vend all the events and meet your disc golf needs. They have been an integral partnership for the tourney always helping to elevate the experience. Talk about extra mile people, they break down the whole shop then take a new person out to learn the sport after a long long day vending. Any support you show them they put back into the sport so go and show them so love this event. Random Extras - fingers crossed we might be an OCC Tour event again. Although we are happy to support other Almaguin/Muskoka tourneys with that opportunity. - sponsors :) no secret we killed it last year, we were blown away by our amazing reoccurring sponsors. But we won’t lose sleep if the payouts aren’t 200+% value of registration lol We have to widen our net outside local sponsors to grow. We are working on new strategies to intrigue business outside the impacted area. -yes we (Jody) are trying to get yet another porta potty. Bringing the total to 5 I think spread out over the course. The plan is to double up the entry and have them clean and emptied right before the doubles. We were proud that it ment so much to people to have covered. More details to come as we are just getting the engine started. We take pride in trying to deliver the best player experience possible and look forward to hosting you all.
