WELCOME TO THE 2024 CEDAR CREEK OPEN!!! CCO week is nearly here!!! Please use this information to give people more time to plan, coordinate, prompt questions, and maximize your likelihood of having an awesome weekend at Cedar Creek! Please take the time to look over everything so that you don’t miss out on any of the fun! If you have Facebook, I urge you to join the Cedar Creek Open 2024 event page (https://www.facebook.com/events/7433532430045661) and post your questions there so everyone can see my responses. Disc Golf Scene is another good option! If neither of these options work for you, feel free to email me at [email redacted]. The following is a “living document” that is shared publicly at the link below. If any questions arise that warrant a change or addition, I will do so there. Feel free to look this over again in the days leading up to the tournament to review and look for any updates. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1BZyVnm-dhksGJ6IV5D0tDYiKxpZzgWOwkvB0Lo8b0ZE/edit?usp=sharing Access Code for PDGA Digital Scoreboard: cedar Check-In Player check-in starts on Friday at 12:00pm noon at Tournament Central and will last until sundown. Check-in will also be available Saturday morning from 7:00-9:00am. All players MUST check in! Check-in is VERY important for filling spots of no-shows from the waitlist. For AMs, player pack choices (disc molds, garment styles and colors, etc.) are first come, first served. Items will not be held. If there is a line, please be patient! Withdrawal If you need to withdraw from the tournament, please do so through Disc Golf Scene. If you cannot find how to do that, please email [email redacted]. All PDGA rules for refunds will be followed. At this stage, full refunds are only possible if someone is found to take your place from the waitlist. Tournament Central and Shelter House Tournament Central is found in the large three-stall garage building. All check-in, tournament questions and information, and merchandise can be found at Tournament Central. The Shelter House is the other building at the opposite end of the parking lot. This is where food is served throughout the weekend. There is also another room with indoor seating. Bathrooms There are two single-stall bathrooms on the outside of Tournament Central. There are also bathrooms available in the Shelter House. Please work very hard to keep these clean for all participants. Let me know right away if there is anything wrong with any bathroom. Finally, there are portable toilets available at two points on each courses (Holes 1 and 8 on West, Holes 1 and 10 on East, and Holes 4 and 15 on Central). Please thank Jason Kloskin for this contribution to the event. It was his idea to add this amenity years ago, and he has organized and paid for it ever since! Amazing. Parking With such a big event, parking can be a precious commodity. Please be mindful and considerate while parking. Pay close attention to how and where you are parking. When parking at flag lines on grass, please pull straight into those flags so that cars are side-by-side like a typical parking lot. Please pull all the way up to the flags, even if that means pulling onto grass. Please be aware of signs that signal the end of the line for parking, or parking for tournament staff. It is very difficult to find vehicle owners to have things moved. If there are no more spaces in the lots on East, you will need to park along Cedar Park Road. One option is to park in the median. The median is wide, so please make sure your vehicle is not on the pavement in any way. If you drive a vehicle in which you are able and comfortable to hop the curb, another option is to park along the field across from the row of houses. Please do this carefully and double check that no part of your vehicle is hanging into the street. Additionally, make sure you don’t go any further into the park than the wood post that marks the end of the OB line on hole 3 East. When parking on Cedar Park Road, please be extra kind and considerate of the residents in the neighborhood. They are largely welcoming and supportive of CCO, and I’d like to keep it that way! When parking on Cedar Creek West, please park side-by-side all the way along the tree/fence line all the way to the field. Round 1 Hole Assignments Hole assignments for round one will be posted the evening of Thursday, August 15th at https://www.pdga.com/tour/event/76048. Regardless of when you check these hole assignments, please check AGAIN on Saturday morning after the players meeting before heading to your hole. Online Scoring All official scores will be done through PDGA Digital Scoreboard. Access code: cedar If you need an overview, please check out https://www.pdga.com/apps/tournament/score/help. When it’s time to go, use the PDGA Live app or go to www.pdga.com/score to get started. These scores will be official and authoritative. That is, if you confirm an incorrect score, that is the same as turning in an incorrect physical scorecard and you would be penalized. Please be sure to confirm your group scores at the end of your round - simply entering the scores of the last hole is not enough. Confirm your scores immediately upon the completion of your round before leaving the rest of your group. PDGA rules require that ALL players take score. Please arrive with your device fully charged. If you are having issues loading anything, please sign out and sign back in. Physical scorecards are available at Tournament Central upon request. Tee Times and Starting Holes for Round 2 Please use the PDGA Live app or go to www.pdga.com/live to look at scores and https://www.pdga.com/tour/event/76048 to check next round times AND starting holes. This information is also available on the PDGA Live app, but sometimes gets missed. Tee times are listed in the header of each division rather than next to each player. I will also post starting time information on the whiteboard at Tournament Central and the Facebook event page as soon as I know it, but you’ll need to check your starting hole online anyway. Food On Site The Fairmont Disc Club will be serving food all weekend at the Shelter House (the other building that is not Tournament Central) all weekend. Things will kick off on Friday around noon! Stop by for lunch and keep coming back throughout the weekend. Please be kind and respectful to all of these wonderful volunteers. They are doing it for you and for the love of Cedar Creek. As with everything else at CCO, absolutely ALL proceeds will go back into the tournament and courses. Cash is preferred for speed of service, but Venmo is also accepted. Friday Flex Start PDGA C-tier The Minnesota Frisbee Association is hosting a flex start PDGA C-tier on Friday from 12:00pm - 6:00pm on Cedar Creek West. Flex start anytime 12:00pm - 6:00pm. Two separate events - one on Central and one on East. You CAN play in both. Sign up at Tournament Central with CCO staff. Cost is per team. $50 Pro, $40 AM, $30 Mixed. The Mixed division is only available on East to prevent splitting a small division. Payouts will be available any time Saturday or Sunday. AM payouts will be through CCO merch only. Beer Brewed for CCO! We have again teamed up with Lost Sanity Brewing in Madelia, MN to make a beer specifically for the Cedar Creek Open! The beer is still called Cerberus, and the can will again feature the same artwork that you’ll find on some of this year’s CCO discs. That said, the recipe and style of the beer will be changing each year. This year’s Cerberus features Cascade hops that were all grown right here in Fairmont, MN! It will debut at the CCO Player Party on Saturday, in which everyone can try one for free! Lost Sanity will also be bringing their beer trailer so that you can try some of their other delicious beers. If you have time to check out Lost Sanity before that, I have a special offer for you! Stop by their taproom in Madelia and mention CCO with any purchase and you’ll get a $10 voucher that can be used on any CCO merch. Pick them up any time between now and CCO weekend. This beer, as well as other Lost Sanity beers are also on sale in Mankato at MGM, Cork and Key, Hilltop Hy-Vee, and PJ’s Liquor Emporium, MGM in St. Peter, and Hy-Vee in New Ulm, If you enjoy it at the tournament, please show your support and pick some up on your way home! Tournament Format All divisions will play one round on each course. Two rounds on Saturday and one round on Sunday. The top four players in MPO, MP40, MA1, MA2, and MA40 (all divisions with 16 or more competitors) will play a Final Nine round on a Cedar Creek East safari course. Round 1 will start promptly at 10:00am on Saturday. Round 2 will start one hour after the last card has confirmed their score from Round 1. Check the PDGA Live app or website for the start time and starting hole of your second round. Round 3 will start at 8:30am on Sunday. The Final Nine will start approximately 20 minutes after the conclusion of Round 1. Please stay close (within earshot) to Tournament Central if you make the Final Nine! The order of play for each pool is listed below (PLEASE NOTE THESE POOLS ARE DIFFERENT THAN LAST YEAR): Pool A (MPO, MP40, MP50, MP60): East, West, Central Pool B (FPO, FP40, FA40, FA1, FA2, FA3, MA2): Central, East, West Pool C (MA1, MA40, MA50): West, Central, East Cedar Creek East and Cedar Creek Central only have one set of tees per hole, so all divisions will be playing the same tees on those courses. Cedar Creek West has two sets of tees on many holes. FP40, FA40, FA1, FA2, and FA3 will be playing short tees on Cedar Creek West, and all other divisions will be playing from the long tees. Long tees have signs and posts. Short tees do not. Holes with short tees are: 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17. This is also listed in the player guide that you will receive at check in, and will have a note added to the PDGA live scoring. Course Info Course maps, hole information, and all OBs are also listed in the player guide that you will receive at check in, but are also attached in a PDF to this email. Individual hole information can be found on the tee signs, using the links to Disc Golf Course Review, or on UDisc. All baskets are currently in their tournament positions and will not be changing positions. Course Changes From Last Year This tournament has a lot of players that return year after year. I think it is important to call attention to course changes, especially for those players. We are continuing our trend of unveiling one new basket location on each course each year. Last year’s new basket positions (14 East, 17 Central, and 15 West) will all remain in those locations. This year’s new basket positions will be on 16 East, 15 Central, and 8 West. In addition to these new basket positions, we’ve altered a few holes in other ways. -We installed a new circle teepad on hole 4 East to make thing bit more comfortable. -We added a short tee on 15 West to be used by those women’s divisions that play shorts. -We moved the tee and fairway of 1 East to interfere less with the path, parking lot, and hole 18. -We moved the tee on 18 East back a little bit because of some tree loss. Note that across the path on 18 East is now OB. Water Stations As always, there will be bottled water available around the courses. There will be three stations per course where water can be found. We have enough bottles of water for all participants to have one per round. You are welcome to more, but try to spread the love as well. It is always a good idea to bring your own water to start the round. And please don’t litter! If a garbage can is full, let us know, don’t just pile it on top. Pack-in, pack-out is always the best philosophy for disc golf. Camping Primitive tent camping is allowed at the course on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. No campfires, no electrical hookups, and no showers available. If you plan on doing this, please get a pass for your car when you check in to the tournament (or reach out to me if you need it Thursday). There is a designated area where tents are allowed, so make sure you get that info from CCO staff when you get your pass. Tents must be taken down each morning as the camping area comes into play on the course. CTPs for AMs on EAST Every hole on EAST will have a CTP for AMs. Because some pools play that course on Saturday and others play it on Sunday, please make sure you leave the flags out overnight. Do NOT bring them in after the round on Saturday. Amateur Card Winners on WEST and CENTRAL Each round on WEST and CENTRAL will give AMs a chance to win a prize. Just have the lowest score on your card! If you win your card, just come to Tournament Central after you’ve confirmed your round on PDGA Digital Scorecard and you will get your choice of prize from a bunch of awesome stuff! Double Up There will be a hole (Hole 3 on Cedar Creek East) in which you can wager money on whether you will be able to get your tee shot within a set area. If you get your drive in that area, you will receive funny money for DOUBLE the amount you wagered. If you miss, you will still get funny money for half the amount. Double Up Funny Money is good with any vendor on site. If double up funny money is used on CCO products, all proceeds will be put back into the prize pool. Cash, Venmo, and PayPal accepted for wagers. Side Games Each tournament participant will get one free chance at each competition (Putting, Accuracy, Mini Putting). Try as many times as you want for $2 each after that! Three divisions - Pro, Amateur, and Women. Tournament AMs can decide to play Pro instead if they want, but tournament Pros must play Pro. Side game qualifying begins on Friday afternoon and runs until dark. There is also time to qualify after Round 2 on Saturday, but will be cut off at approximately 7:20pm. The top three scores (ties included) will compete in the finals on Saturday night at approximately 7:30pm. For each competition, AMs and Women will be competing for $100 CCO merch and Pros will be competing for $100 cash. If anyone makes a clean sweep off all three competitions I will add another $100. 5 for 5 for 5 We debuted this contest a couple years ago and it was a blast, so we are running it back again. Saturday night I will set up a temporary hole near the other side games. Pay $5 for 5 shots from the tee. If you get an ace, you get $500! You can play as many times as you’d like, but the first ace ends the game! If no one aces, all of the money will be used for payouts and projects at Cedar Creek. That definitely didn’t happen the first two years! Raffle Tickets will be sold until Saturday evening at Tournament Central. Tickets will cost $5 for 3 tickets, $10 for 10 tickets, or $20 for a wingspan (fingertip to fingertip, which is usually about 40). You will also receive 3 tickets with the purchase of any CCO disc, shirt, or hat. You can then place tickets at your own discretion into the bins of which items you’d like to try to win. Tickets will be drawn Saturday night, posted on Facebook, and taped onto the items themselves. Prizes can be claimed any time on Sunday. Some of the awesome prizes for this year include: Zuca Cart, Rovic RV1D Cart, MVP Black Hole Basket, Chainstar Lite Basket, Early Entry to 2025 CCO, Disc Golf Art, CCO Funny Money, and Lollygagger Lounge Chair by Loll Design ($645 value!) https://lolldesigns.com/products/lollygagger-outdoor-lounge-chair?variant=32930067021964 Payouts Pro payouts will be immediately available in cash or available through PayPal the following week. CCO has some of the fastest payouts in the game. Please stick around and grab them in cash! Amateur payouts will be available on site only. Amateur payouts will be available through Airborn, Minnesota Frisbee Association, Treasures of the Forest, Par Plastics, and CCO. Payouts can be split between these vendors however you want when used on site. Payouts will be done fast, but if you need to leave prior to payouts you must arrange for an online voucher from ONE of the vendors before doing so. If not, your payout will default to CCO only and you can contact me at a later date. Any shipping costs will need to be covered by you or taken from the payout amount. Cedar Creek Open Posters and More My brother Justin – designer of the CCO Cerberus artwork for the last two years – will have a few cool items available. He will have screen-printed CCO posters, screen-printed Surly Darkness posters, Surly Darkness discs (Innova molds), as well as other things. Check them out in person and get them while supplies last. Kelly DiCenzo CCO and Disc Golf Crafts My mother, Kelly DiCenzo, made a bunch of crafts for last year’s event. Everything from stained glass and mosaic pieces to keychains, pillows, and even a quilt. Everything was a hit and sold out by the end of the weekend. She made more this year. Get them before they’re gone! Sponsors Thank you to our sponsors!! Katie, Rye, and Rowan Boehne. Other places that you frequent might become sponsors in the future. At the end of the weekend we will be having a drawing for some discs, bags, and other great prizes. To enter the drawing, simply place any receipt from any Fairmont purchase into the containers in the garage with your name written on the back. Final Thoughts This is the 18th year of the Cedar Creek Open. Turning 18 is usually an important milestone in our lives - that time when many consider themselves adults and start to go out on their own. Tournaments aren’t the same. CCO and the courses at Cedar Creek are not going to start taking care of themselves. In fact, it’s quite the opposite. It takes more work every year. But as the years go on and more and more people fall in love with this event and these courses, more people have stepped up to help and make a difference. The Fairmont Disc Club has done more this year than ever before! The Fairmont Park Department continues to step up in new and helpful ways. Years ago, my good friend Brady Laue stopped playing the event to help me out and make sure the event runs smoothly. My family never ceases to amaze me with their help, love, and support. And the endless contributions and collaborations from tournament participants blows my mind. I’m not exactly sure how long I’ll keep running this event, or what it will look like when I decide to move on, but for now I’m just excited for another great year. I’m very proud of what we’ve built. Finally, I’ll repeat something that I said last year. I’ve been around for a long time, so you can safely assume that a lot of things that I do have reasons that are rooted in significant experience as a player and a tournament director. But times change! If there is something that you think needs to be different, please let me know. I can tell you why it is the way it is, if you’d like to know. But more importantly, I will consider if it needs to change moving forward. Regardless, I hope everyone has a blast this weekend! All the best, Trevor Boehne
